Day 4 in Tanzania

Written by Katie and Britney

Today was another exciting day in Africa! We started off by having our African breakfast and our one on one time with God. Having this dedicated hour for God each morning has really helped us get in the right mind set for the day. It has helped us over come tough spiritual barriers.

Walking near the Joshua Foundation

We then received 3 very inspirational talks from Simon, Rod and Jan. We learnt how we need to lean into God’s presence and power when praying for people and for healing, as well as the importance of firstly interviewing them so we know the details of their problem. We then “drop down” (a term the team here uses for focusing on God, not on ourselves as we remember that it is Christ in us!) and pray in Jesus’ name. We learnt about how to ask God for words of knowledge and to figure out if there is something deeper than what they are telling you.

Our next adventure involved putting our faith into practise and going out into the village to visit families and individuals in need. We split off into four groups to go out into the local village with gifts of rice and also to pray for them. We set off in the hot sun to our designated areas.

Visiting a family who the Joshua Foundation have been working with

There were a few instances where healing occurred and God moved. Simon’s group which included Juliet, Saia and Katie prayed for a Bibi who has had back pain for 8 years. After praying for her a couple of times she received healing! The next house the team went to was a mud house which contained a family of 7. This was such an eye opener as to how some people live. We are beyond blessed to live in New Zealand where we have our own bed, no holes in our roofs, or a damp mud floors. These people have next to nothing, but still wanted to give visitors the best of what they have.

The last place Simon’s team went to had a lady who had sufficed from a broken arm. It was still not completely healed from when her cast had been taken off and this was such a burden on her because she was a ‘Mama’ and couldn’t do much for her kids. So the team prayed for her and her restricted arm was completely healed. She had the freedom of no pain.

Once every group got back we had an amazingly delicious dinner which then was followed by worship. This was a significant time for all of us and God’s presence was felt in many different ways, big and small. We look forward in seeing what God has in store for us in the coming days in Tanzania. ??
